About this trip
Eight days covering the major historical stops in Turkey, built for someone who wants a lot of ground covered without wasting time on logistics. You move by coach between sites, with a flight back to Istanbul at the end to save a long overland leg.
The route runs from the WWI battlefields of Gallipoli to the ruins of Troy, then on to Ephesus and the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, before returning to Istanbul to explore the city itself.
What you'll do
- Walk the WWI battlefield sites at Gallipoli
- See the excavated remains of ancient Troy
- Explore the ancient city of Ephesus on foot
- Visit the white cliff pools of Pamukkale
- Fly back to Istanbul and explore its bazaars, mosques and tea houses
- Fast-paced — you cover a lot of historical ground in a short time
- Coach travel between most sites, with a flight for the final return leg
- Rated easy, so no strenuous activity involved
Worth it if you want a well-paced introduction to Turkey's main sights with strong guides. Think twice if you need consistently comfortable hotels or have mobility concerns in heat.
- Guide quality varies dramatically; Huseyin and Elif were exceptionally knowledgeable, literary, and attentive.
- Accommodation inconsistent—some have pools, others are run-down; local supplier focus doesn't guarantee comfort.
- Lots of walking on uneven surfaces in high summer heat; more than light physical activity despite marketing.
- Eight days covers major sights efficiently, leaving you wanting to return to explore deeper.
