About this trip
Thirteen days moving through Karnataka and Kerala, from grand palace architecture to backwater cruises, with wildlife and mountain scenery in between.
You start in Mysore before heading into the forests of Nagarhole and the green hills of Wayanad, then take a train through the Nilgiri mountains on your way south. The trip ends at a slower pace, drifting along the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom.
It suits anyone wanting a mix of culture, nature and a bit of quiet at the end — good for couples, families or a small group travelling over Christmas or New Year.
What you'll do
- Explore the Maharajah's Palace in Mysore
- Look for wildlife in Nagarhole National Park
- Walk the hills and plantations of Wayanad
- Ride the train through the Nilgiri mountains
- Cruise the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom
- Mixes active sightseeing with slower stretches on the water
- Partially guided, so some sections give you room to explore independently
Worth it if you're after diverse South Indian landscapes, wildlife, and culture with capable guides. Think twice if you need consistently high-end hotels or dislike long drives and tight itineraries.
- Nagarhole safari delivers genuine wildlife sightings; houseboat stay in Alleppey genuinely relaxing and memorable.
- Hotel quality patchy—some rooms lack modern amenities; Alleppey boat described as dirty and tired.
- Long drives between destinations are tiring; guides sometimes push alternative arrangements for personal gain.
- Get an Indian SIM card before arrival to coordinate directly with your agent and avoid local guide scheming.
