About this trip
Five days in Argentine Patagonia, split between El Calafate and El Chalten, two very different sides of the same landscape.
Near El Calafate you head into Los Glaciares National Park to see the Perito Moreno Glacier up close. Then it's a three-hour drive north to El Chalten, where trails start right at the edge of the village and lead you into U-shaped glacial valleys under sharp rocky peaks.
This is a self-guided trip — you travel independently but share transport and services with other travellers along the way.
What you'll do
- Visit Los Glaciares National Park and see the Perito Moreno Glacier
- Travel from El Calafate to El Chalten through open Patagonian steppe
- Walk trails that start directly from El Chalten village
- Take in U-shaped glacial valleys and rocky mountain scenery
- A couple of days set aside for trekking around El Chalten
- Self-guided and private, but you share transport and some services with other passengers
- Suits travellers who want time on foot in the mountains, not just sightseeing from a bus
- Moderate pace — most days involve a fair amount of walking or a long drive between bases
