About this trip
Five days from Edinburgh up through the Highlands to Orkney, covering a lot of ground but at an easy, guided pace with everything organised for you. You get a night in Inverness before crossing to the islands for two days of ancient sites, coastline and wildlife.
The route takes in some of Scotland's best-known scenery on the way north, then swaps mountains for Orkney's flatter, wind-scoured landscape and its extraordinary concentration of prehistoric monuments.
It suits anyone who wants a taste of both the Highlands and the far north without organising transport or entry tickets themselves, including families and small groups travelling together.
