About this trip
Bardia National Park sits in the Terai lowlands, far enough from Kathmandu that few visitors make it here, which means you get grassland, savannah and riverine forest largely to yourselves. This is a straightforward four-day safari built around walking and jeep drives rather than a packed itinerary.
You reach the park either by a long 9-10 hour drive west from Kathmandu along the Trishuli River and the east-west highway, or by a short flight to Nepalgunj followed by an hour's transfer. Once there, the days settle into a rhythm of guided jungle walks, early morning birdwatching, and a jeep safari deeper into the park in search of tigers and rhinos.
It suits families or small private groups after a genuine wildlife experience rather than a checklist tour, with local guides who know the park's trails and animal movements well.
