About this trip
Twenty-one days across four countries — Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia — taking in the region's big cultural landmarks in one long overland route.
You move from Bangkok's markets and Chiang Mai's temples through Laos to Vietnam's coast and cities, finishing among the Angkor temples in Cambodia. Expect a mix of city time, river and coastal scenery, and a fair amount of travel days between countries.
It's partially guided, so some sections run with a leader and others give you more room to explore on your own.
What you'll do
- Browse Bangkok's floating markets
- Visit the temples of Chiang Mai
- See the waterfalls around Luang Prabang
- Cruise Ha Long Bay's waters
- Walk the old town of Hoi An
- Explore the Angkor temples at Siem Reap
- Covers four countries in three weeks, so pace is brisk with regular travel days
- Partially guided — some legs are led, others more independent
- Requires a minimum of two people per booking and 30 days' advance booking
Worth it if you want a comprehensive four-country overview with strong guides and good hotels. Think twice if you need efficient routing or have specific dietary preferences beyond their lunch budget.
- Guides were college-educated with history degrees; four of seven were outstanding, responsive, and genuinely knowledgeable about their regions.
- Itinerary routing inefficient in places—one reviewer lost a full touring day due to backtracking before a flight instead of direct travel.
- Lunch comes with a strict budget limit; if you dislike what's offered, you'll negotiate extra costs or go hungry.
- Five flights plus one overnight train over 21 days means heavy travel days; Vietnam gets disproportionate focus as Hoi An is Vietnamese-run.
