About this trip
A long day out from Delhi to two of India's holiest towns on the Ganges, Haridwar and Rishikesh. You cover a lot of ground by road, with the reward of temples, ghats and river scenery along the way.
The day builds towards the Ganga Aarti, the evening ceremony of lights and chanting held on the riverbank, one of the most striking rituals you can witness in India.
It's a there-and-back day trip rather than a stay, so expect a fair amount of driving with the sights packed in between.
What you'll do
- Witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony on the riverbanks
- Visit sacred ghats and ancient temples
- Cross the iconic suspension bridges over the Ganges
- Take in Himalayan foothill scenery along the river
- Wander Rishikesh, India's yoga capital
- This is a single long day trip from Delhi with transfers, not an overnight stay
- Pace is fast — much of the day is spent travelling between Delhi, Haridwar and Rishikesh
- If you want to stay on in Rishikesh, for example for yoga classes, a drop-off there can be arranged instead of the return transfer
