About this trip

Seven days in the Peruvian Andes combining two classic treks with a trip up to Rainbow Mountain. You spend three days on the Lares route through high mountain passes and traditional villages, then join the Short Inca Trail for two days on the approach to Machu Picchu.

Expect steady climbing at altitude, Inca ruins along the way, and a night walking into the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu itself. The route also drops into cloud forest before the final approach to the citadel.

Rainbow Mountain caps the trip, with its bands of red, gold and green rock among the more striking sights in the Andes.

  • Trek three days along the Lares route through Andean villages and high passes above 4,000m
  • Walk the Short Inca Trail on the approach to Machu Picchu
  • Explore Inca archaeological sites along the trail
  • Pass through cloud forest within the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
  • Visit Rainbow Mountain and its coloured mineral bands
