Inca Trail 2 Days to Machu Picchu with Camping

Start & end in Cusco 2 days Up to 12

About this trip

This is the short version of the Inca Trail, built for people who want the walk and the ruins without committing four days to it. You cover the last stretch of the classic trail on foot, camp overnight near Aguas Calientes, then go into Machu Picchu itself the next morning with a guide.

Day one is the physical part: a steady uphill hike past the Winaywayna ruins to the Sun Gate, where Machu Picchu comes into view for the first time. You don't enter the site that day — instead you head to camp, eat a meal cooked by the trekking crew, and get a proper look at the night sky before sleeping.

Day two is the pay-off: a guided walk through Machu Picchu itself, before heading back down to Cusco, arriving around 8:30pm.

What you'll do

  • Hike roughly 15km along the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate
  • See Machu Picchu for the first time from the Sun Gate
  • Pass the Winaywayna ruins on the trail
  • Camp overnight near Aguas Calientes with meals cooked by the trekking crew
  • Stargaze from camp before sleeping
  • Guided walking tour inside Machu Picchu on day two
Good to know
  • Day one involves around six hours of hiking, mostly uphill, so a reasonable level of fitness helps
  • You camp one night rather than stay in a hotel
  • Long day two — you're back in Cusco around 8:30pm
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a well-fed, manageable 2-day trek with a genuinely attentive guide. Think twice if you need detailed logistics or have serious fitness concerns.

  • Guide Viktor actively paced with slower walkers, offering real encouragement rather than just pushing ahead.
  • Food quality and quantity consistently praised; camp tents were genuinely comfortable, not the budget grim you'd expect.
  • Guides deliver actual historical context during the walk, making it educational rather than just physical graft.
  • Group size appears around 7 people; confirm group composition matters to you before booking.
