Inca Trail 2 Days to Machu Picchu with Vistadome

Start & end in Cusco 2 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is the condensed version of the Inca Trail — two days rather than four — for when you want to walk into Machu Picchu rather than arrive by bus. You cover the Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna ruins and cloud forest on the way, arriving through the Sun Gate on foot.

You get two visits to Machu Picchu, one at sunset and one the next morning at sunrise, with a night in a hotel down in Aguas Calientes in between rather than camping. The return leg is on the Vistadome train, so you get a proper look at the Andean scenery on the way back.

It's fully guided throughout, with meals prepared for you on the trail.

What you'll do

  • Hike the Short Inca Trail through cloud forest
  • Explore the Chachabamba and Wiñaywayna archaeological sites
  • Enter Machu Picchu on foot through the Sun Gate
  • See Machu Picchu at both sunset and sunrise
  • Overnight in a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes
  • Return by Vistadome train through the Andes
Good to know
  • A real trek rather than a token walk, but condensed into a single day of hiking
  • Suits those who want the Inca Trail experience without committing to the full four-day route
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're fit enough for a strenuous hike and value knowledgeable local guides sharing cultural insight. Think twice if you need a leisurely pace or prefer fully independent exploration.

  • Guides consistently went beyond logistics—sharing personal Inca heritage, ecology, and archaeology throughout the trek.
  • Porters and chefs managed dietary restrictions seamlessly and prepared hot meals despite challenging terrain and short staffing.
  • The hike is strenuous and demanding; multiple reviewers emphasise needing genuine fitness preparation beforehand.
  • Organisation and logistics are tight—booking, communication, and staff responsiveness all run smoothly from start to finish.
