Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu 3 Days

Start & end in Cusco 3 days Up to 16

About this trip

A quieter route to Machu Picchu, this three-day trek takes you along an old Inca trail through the Andes rather than the crowded classic path. You'll walk through mountain scenery, past lakes and green valleys, with far fewer people around than on the main routes in.

The trek's centrepiece is Huchuy Qosqo itself, a little-visited Inca site above the Sacred Valley with wide views over the mountains. From there you continue on to Machu Picchu, arriving with a different sense of the place than most visitors get.

You finish the trip riding back to Cusco on the Vistadome or 360° train, watching the valley pass by from the window.

What you'll do

  • Trek an old Inca route from near Cusco into the Sacred Valley
  • Explore Huchuy Qosqo, a lesser-visited Inca site with Sacred Valley views
  • Pass mountain lakes and meet local villagers along the way
  • See llamas and alpacas grazing in the highlands
  • Visit Machu Picchu after two days of trekking, away from the busiest routes
  • Return to Cusco on the panoramic Vistadome or 360° train
Good to know
  • Multi-day trek at altitude — some fitness and acclimatisation help
  • Suits those wanting a less crowded alternative to the classic Inca Trail
