Private Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Start & end in Cusco 2 days Up to 16

About this trip

This is a private, two-day version of the Inca Trail, built around your own pace rather than a fixed group schedule. You walk a scenic stretch of the original trail with a private guide, taking in ruins along the way before arriving at the Sun Gate as the sun sets over Machu Picchu.

You overnight nearby in a 3-star hotel, then head back up the next morning to see the citadel again at sunrise, before a scenic train ride home on the Vistadome.

With just you (and whoever you're travelling with) and a dedicated guide, it suits people who want the Inca Trail experience without joining a larger trekking group.

What you'll do

  • Hike a scenic section of the Inca Trail with a private guide
  • Visit the ruins at Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna
  • Reach the Sun Gate for sunset over Machu Picchu
  • See Machu Picchu again at sunrise the next morning
  • Overnight in a 3-star hotel near the site
  • Return by the Panoramic Vistadome train
Good to know
  • Private service, so pace and timing flex around you rather than a group
  • Involves two separate visits to Machu Picchu, sunset and sunrise, with an overnight in between
  • Still a genuine trek along Inca Trail terrain, not just a shuttle to the site
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're reasonably fit and want guided cultural context. Think twice if you need hand-holding on logistics or prefer easier walks.

  • Guides (especially Katie/Katy/Cati) genuinely share Inca history, spirituality, ecology with warmth and personal insight throughout.
  • Porters and chefs deliver hot meals daily, accommodate dietary restrictions reliably, and handle all camp logistics efficiently.
  • The hike is strenuous and genuinely demanding; pace matters hugely but hinges entirely on your guide's skill.
  • Two-day format is tight; organisation and clear communication from booking onwards are essential to manage logistics smoothly.
