About this trip
Four days on foot along the classic Inca Trail, covering 24 miles through mountain passes, cloud forest and a string of Inca sites before arriving at Machu Picchu.
This is proper trekking — camping each night, gaining and losing altitude on old stone paths built by the Incas themselves, with the landscape shifting from high Andean scenery to thick, humid forest.
You arrive at the Sun Gate on foot, which gives you your first look down over Machu Picchu before the crowds arriving by bus and train catch up.
