Explore Northern Thailand

Bangkok → Chiang Mai 8 days Up to 12

About this trip

Eight days across Northern Thailand, travelling overland from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai with a local leader throughout.

Along the way you ride the old railway in Kanchanaburi, spend time with elephants near Phitsanulok, and walk the ruins of Old Sukhothai among its lakes and gardens. You also visit a Lanna village community project and get stuck into Chiang Mai's fresh produce market.

It's a fully guided small-group trip with a fair amount packed into each day, moving steadily north rather than lingering in any one place.

What you'll do

  • Ride the historic railway in Kanchanaburi
  • Walk with elephants near Phitsanulok
  • Explore the ancient ruins of Old Sukhothai
  • Learn about the Lanna village Pong Huai Lan community project
  • Visit the fresh produce market in Chiang Mai with your local leader
Good to know
  • Easy pace physically, but the itinerary is busy with a lot of ground covered each day
  • Involves various amounts of walking to see the main sights properly
  • Very little time in Bangkok itself — worth booking an extra night if you want to explore the city
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value strong guides, genuine cultural access, and breathing room in the schedule. Think twice if you're sensitive to long travel days and want predictable, leisurely pacing.

  • Guides like Suchin, Tommy, GiGi and Arjan go genuinely above and beyond: local cultural access, food experiences, group care, even sick passengers.
  • Itinerary balances longer travel days with settled sightseeing days plus unscheduled free time for shopping, wandering, or resting without rigid timing.
  • Some daytime travel stretches feel long; night travel might suit better. Day 1 setup and final day timing could feel rushed or wasteful.
  • International group dynamic is positive; logistics handled means you focus purely on destinations rather than bookings or transport stress.
