About this trip
Fifteen days across Turkey, starting and finishing in Istanbul, covering a lot of ground from Cappadocia's underground cities to the ruins of Ephesus and the beaches of the Aegean coast.
This is a full sweep of the country's history and landscapes: cave dwellings, ancient sites, thermal springs and the windswept battlefields of Gallipoli all feature. Travel is by private air-conditioned bus with frequent stops, so even the longer driving days come with decent scenery and breaks.
A small group format with a guide throughout, though you're free to explore sites at your own pace once you're there.
What you'll do
- Explore the underground city and cave dwellings of Cappadocia
- Sail among the islands of Kekova
- Wander the ancient ruins of Ephesus
- Soak in the thermal hot springs of Pamukkale
- Visit the battlefields of the Gallipoli peninsula
- Covers a lot of ground in two weeks, so expect some long travel days between sites
- Bring sturdy walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a day pack for exploring historical sites on foot
- Weather can swing to extremes — hot summers and colder winters than many expect, so pack layers
Worth it if you get a passionate, organised guide and want authentic Turkish experiences. Think twice if logistics and predictability matter more than adventure.
- When guides are engaged, they transform the trip: site visits, tea at their homes, playing traditional instruments.
- Time estimates are wildly inaccurate; a 45-minute stop becomes 90 minutes, lunch varies noon to 3pm with no warning.
- One person manages logistics and guiding simultaneously; group coordination breaks down, especially if someone needs to split off.
- Long driving days covering many kilometres are unavoidable; the bus is comfortable but expect fatigue across 15 days.
