About this trip
Ten days tracing Vietnam's east coast from Hanoi down to Ho Chi Minh City (or in reverse), with a local leader guiding you through backstreets, villages and waterways along the way.
You'll eat well as you go — banh mi, condensed milk coffee, street food stalls — while covering some serious ground, from Halong Bay's limestone islands to the Mekong Delta's canals. It's a fast-moving introduction to the country, built for a small group covering a lot in a short time.
Expect a mix of cities, coastline and countryside, with a night on Halong Bay and an overnight train thrown into the journey.
What you'll do
- Spend a night on Halong Bay
- Take a motorbike ride through the old streets of Hue
- Visit the tailors of Hoi An
- Cruise the Mekong Delta and wave to local fishermen
- Explore UNESCO World Heritage sites along the coast
- Sample street food, banh mi and condensed milk coffee
- Involves some long journeys, including an overnight train with shared, basic facilities
- The Hue motorbike ride has been safety-assessed and helmets are provided, but alternative transport can be arranged if you'd rather not ride
- Vietnam's heat and humidity can be intense depending on the season and where you're travelling from
Worth it if you value immersive cultural experiences, strong guides, and a ready-made social group. Think twice if you need flexibility or prefer independent travel.
- Guide quality is genuinely exceptional—consistently described as knowledgeable, engaging, organisational, and the defining factor of the trip.
- Activities are well-curated and hands-on: cooking classes, lantern-making in Hoi An, motorbike countryside rides, Ha Long Bay cruises, local eateries.
- Group dynamics naturally bond diverse ages, with reviewers reporting strong friendships and shared dinners throughout the 10 days.
- Heavily reliant on group schedule and guide personality; no reviews mention flexibility or solo downtime built into itinerary.
