About this trip
A 12-day route through Vietnam's north-to-south highlights, covering the country's history, food and landscapes without doubling back on yourself. You start in Hanoi's old streets, drift through Halong Bay on an overnight boat, then work down through Hoi An, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta.
It's a sightseeing-heavy trip built around the big names — imperial citadels, war history, floating markets — with guides doing the explaining so you can just take it in. Good if you want a broad first look at Vietnam rather than lingering in one region.
Comfortable rather than backpacker-rough, with private transfers between cities and organised excursions at each stop.
What you'll do
- Full-day Hanoi tour taking in the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda and Temple of Literature
- Overnight cruise in Halong Bay with kayaking, a floating village visit and sunset over the limestone karsts
- Wander Hoi An's old town and visit the My Son Sanctuary ruins
- Cross the Hai Van Pass by road en route from Hoi An to Hue
- Explore Hue's Imperial Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda, with a local food tour
- Cu Chi Tunnels and a Mekong Delta riverboat trip past villages and markets
- A lot of ground covered in 12 days — expect a new city every couple of nights
- Mostly guided sightseeing rather than free time to explore independently
- Includes a Christmas/New Year departure option alongside standard group and custom dates
Worth it if you want a well-organised, guided deep dive into Vietnam's history and heritage. Think twice if you're picky about Hanoi accommodation—it's hit-and-miss.
- Guides and drivers consistently excellent; Tony and Danny specifically praised for friendliness and attentiveness throughout.
- Halong Bay cruise delivers on scenery and value; widely described as a genuine highlight of the 12-day itinerary.
- Hanoi hotels unreliable—one reviewer found theirs 'very disappointing'; location and quality vary significantly between properties.
- Fast-paced schedule covers World Heritage Sites thoroughly; some may wish for flexibility to swap activities like Son Lai for My Lai.
