About this trip
Seventeen days across Vietnam, north to south, covering the country's big landmarks alongside quieter moments in the mountains and on the water. You start in Hanoi's Old Quarter, head up to Sapa for trekking through rice terraces and villages, then cruise Halong Bay before working your way down through Hue, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City.
It's a full itinerary — imperial history in Hue, Cham ruins at My Son, the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills, and a boat trip through the Mekong Delta's floating markets. Comfortable accommodation and transport are arranged throughout, so the days are yours to spend looking around rather than sorting logistics.
What you'll do
- Trek through rice terraces and hill-tribe villages around Sapa
- Cruise Halong Bay's limestone karsts
- Walk the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills
- Explore Hoi An's old town and take a boat on the Thu Bon River
- Visit Hue's Imperial Citadel and Thien Mu Pagoda
- Ride the Mekong Delta by river boat to the floating markets
- Covers a lot of ground in 17 days — expect regular changes of base as you move from north to south
- Mixes city sightseeing, trekking, and boat trips, so pack for varied terrain and weather
Worth it if you want Halong Bay and Sapa with good logistics. Think twice if you need unhurried sightseeing, reliable hotel standards, or transparent pricing.
- Halong Bay overnight cruise and Sapa guide Suz genuinely standout; memorable experiences that justify the trip.
- Three-star hotels in Hanoi and Sapa were shabby with mould, peeling wallpaper, and poor breakfasts; paid five-star prices.
- City tours rushed and off-itinerary; guides divert to commission-generating lacquer factories, cutting time from actual sights.
- Many guides have limited English; expect communication difficulties and schedules to differ from written itinerary.
