Discovering Indochina: A Mekong Delta Adventure 17-Day

Hanoi → Siem Reap 17 days Up to 12

About this trip

Seventeen days across Vietnam and Cambodia, running from Hanoi in the north down through the centre and south before crossing into Cambodia to finish at Angkor. It's a full sweep of both countries, mixing old imperial cities, war history and ancient temples.

You'll move through Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh before ending in Siem Reap, with a night sleeping on a boat in Halong Bay along the way.

This suits you if you want a comprehensive, well-structured introduction to Vietnam and Cambodia rather than time to settle into one place — expect a good deal of ground covered.

What you'll do

  • Overnight cruise on Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Boat trip along the Thu Bon River and a walk through old Hoi An
  • Visit the Hindu temples of My Son and learn about Champa history
  • Explore Hue's Imperial City, Thien Mu Pagoda and the Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang
  • Descend into the Cu Chi Tunnels used by Viet Cong soldiers
  • See Angkor Wat and the other temples of Angkor near Siem Reap
Good to know
  • Covers two countries and six main bases over 17 days, so it's a fast-moving itinerary
  • Departs every Saturday
  • Includes a night aboard a traditional cruise boat in Halong Bay
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want seamless logistics and expert guides across Vietnam and Cambodia. Think twice if you need luxury hotels included or dislike long travel days.

  • Guides are genuinely knowledgeable, speak fluent English, and handle logistics flawlessly from airport to daily activities.
  • Standard hotels are worn and poorly air-conditioned; upgrades cost extra and weren't included even for first night after arrival.
  • Six-hour Phnom Penh to Siem Reap bus journey is grueling; no flight option offered despite requests.
  • Halong Bay in December-January gets mobbed with tourists; itinerary doesn't warn or suggest alternatives beforehand.
