Vietnam Intro

Hanoi → Hoi An 9 days Up to 22

About this trip

Nine days through northern Vietnam, starting in the noise and energy of Hanoi and heading out to the limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay.

Along the way you get properly stuck into local life — sea kayaking, learning to fish for crabs with a traditional fisherman, and picking up the basics of Vietnamese cooking.

A group leader meets you as soon as you land and stays with you throughout, so you're not figuring things out alone, and you'll be travelling as part of a small group the whole way.

What you'll do

  • Explore the streets and street food of Hanoi
  • Sea kayak around the limestone islands of Ha Long Bay
  • Go crab fishing with a traditional local fisherman
  • Take a Vietnamese cooking class
  • Spend a night out on Ha Long Bay
Good to know
  • Easy-paced trip suited to first-time visitors to Vietnam
  • Group leader is with you from arrival, useful if this is your first time travelling in Southeast Asia
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a well-paced intro hitting major sights with genuinely attentive guides. Think twice if you need a slower pace or want to go deeper than the standard circuit.

  • Tour leaders (Taylor, Paula, Liam) actively check in on group members and tailor activities—one reviewer with chronic fatigue felt genuinely supported.
  • Ninh Binh cycling, Ha Long Bay overnight cruise, and Hanoi are standout highlights; activities are varied and well-balanced with free time.
  • Good value: homestays and most meals included; group vibe is mixed ages and genuinely friendly, not just gap-year types.
  • Nine days feels rushed—multiple reviewers wished they'd booked the 12-day option for more depth or different regions like Ha Giang.
