About this trip
Twelve days across three of Vietnam's most distinct settings: the old streets of Hanoi, the limestone waters of Halong Bay, and the riverside town of Hoi An. It's a guided sightseeing trip built around the country's history and landscape, with a good mix of structured touring and free time.
You start in Hanoi with a full city tour taking in the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, and the Temple of Literature, alongside the noise and street food of the Old Quarter. From there it's an overnight cruise through Halong Bay before settling into Hoi An, where the pace slows and three free days let you explore at your own speed.
Along the way there's a boat trip on the Thu Bon River, a visit to the ancient My Son Sanctuary, and the option to cycle out to Tra Que Herb Village for a hands-on cooking session.
What you'll do
- Full-day Hanoi city tour taking in the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, and Temple of Literature
- Overnight cruise through Halong Bay with kayaking and swimming among the limestone cliffs
- Boat trip along the Thu Bon River in Hoi An
- Visit the 4th-century My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Optional cycling tour to Tra Que Herb Village with a Vietnamese cooking lesson
- Three free days in Hoi An to plan as you like
- Some activities, such as the Tra Que cycling tour, are optional extras
- Suits travellers who want a guided introduction to Vietnam's history and landscapes rather than a fast-paced adventure trip
Worth it if you want a well-organised, guide-led tour hitting iconic spots with minimal hassle. Think twice if you're expecting quiet cities or want to avoid heavy tourist crowds.
- Guides were genuinely knowledgeable, fluent English speakers who made the experience fun and engaging.
- Halong Bay cruise and Hoi An's traffic-free old town are standout highlights; logistics worked seamlessly throughout.
- Big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are chaotic with crazy traffic, pollution, and limited sights beyond war museums.
- Sapa and Halong Bay are extremely touristic despite their beauty; Hilton Hanoi location requires research to navigate independently.
