Arequipa & Colca Canyon

Start & end in Arequipa 4 days Up to 30

About this trip

Four days based around Arequipa, Peru's second city, with a run out to the Colca Canyon to see condors in flight. It mixes colonial architecture and city wandering with proper Andean landscape.

Expect a walk through Arequipa's old town and churches, then a journey out to the pampas and the Colca Valley, where the scenery opens up and vicuñas and alpacas graze alongside the road.

It's a short, partially guided trip, so some parts you'll do independently and some with a guide — a good fit if you want a taste of southern Peru without committing to a longer itinerary.

What you'll do

  • Wander Arequipa's colonial-style downtown
  • Visit the city's churches
  • Cross the pampas outside Arequipa on the way to Colca
  • Watch condors fly over the Colca Valley
  • Spot native camelids such as alpacas and vicuñas in the Andes
Good to know
  • Partially guided — some sections are independent
  • Suits families and groups looking for a short, culture-and-scenery trip
  • Four days is enough to cover Arequipa city and Colca Canyon, but it's a fairly full schedule for that time
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value seamless logistics and knowledgeable guides. Think twice if you want a stable travel group throughout.

  • Airport pickups, accommodation, and activity timing run like clockwork; guides like Geraldine and Mauricio genuinely knowledgeable and personable.
  • You'll be shuffled between different tour groups for various activities, meaning changing companions rather than a cohesive crew.
  • Tip soliciting from guides happens regularly enough that one traveller found it notably annoying.
  • Business-class bus seating and quality hotels included; itinerary covers sights without feeling rushed or superficial.
