About this trip
This three-day stretch takes you along the Icefields Parkway, widely rated one of the most scenic drives anywhere, cutting through the heart of Banff and Jasper National Parks.
Expect glacial lakes in improbable shades of blue and green, snow-capped peaks, rivers, and waterfalls, with regular stops to get out of the coach and actually look at what you're driving past. There's time built in for short hikes and a swim if the water and weather allow, plus a genuine chance of spotting bears, elk, moose, or bighorn sheep along the way.
This section is the middle leg of a longer 8-day Caribou tour, so some of the group will already have travelled up from Vancouver before you join, and others will carry on back down after you finish.
What you'll do
- Drive the Icefields Parkway through Banff and Jasper National Parks
- See the colour of Peyto Lake from its viewpoint
- Stop at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
- Short hikes with mountain and glacier views
- Watch for bears, elk, moose and bighorn sheep
- Swim in a glacial lake or river if conditions allow
- This is the middle two days of an 8-day tour, so you'll be joining a group already partway through their trip
- Coach-based sightseeing with short walks and hikes rather than sustained trekking
Worth it if you want stunning Rocky Mountain scenery with small-group intimacy and excellent guides. Think twice if you need luxury accommodation or have low fitness levels.
- Guides consistently go above and beyond: excellent local knowledge, genuine care for group dynamics, skilled mountain driving.
- Small bus means avoiding massive tour crowds while hitting all major sights: Moraine, Louise, Peyto within three days.
- Accommodation quality varies notably; one reviewer disliked second night; budget hostels aren't always reliable.
- Expect five kilometres daily hiking; guides need reminding to pace for mixed fitness levels across group.
