About this trip
Three days from Marrakech into the Sahara, built around one night in a comfortable desert camp near Merzouga. The route takes you over the High Atlas Mountains and through some of Morocco's best-known landscapes on the way there and back.
The centrepiece is a roughly hour-long camel ride across red-orange dunes to reach the camp, where you get sunset, a clear night sky, and sunrise over the desert before heading back.
Along the way you stop at Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, the Dades Valley, and Todra Gorges, with time built in for photos rather than rushing straight through.
What you'll do
- Cross the High Atlas Mountains by road
- Visit the Kasbah at Ait Benhaddou
- Drive through Dades Valley and Todra Gorges
- Ride a camel roughly an hour into the dunes near Merzouga
- Spend a night in a desert camp with sunset, stars and sunrise over the Sahara
- Long driving days link the desert stretch with the mountain and gorge scenery, so expect time on the road
- Accommodation is more comfort-focused than basic camping, suited to those who want the desert experience without roughing it
Worth it if you value a knowledgeable, adaptable guide who genuinely cares. Think twice if you need detailed logistics clarity before booking.
- Abdoule handles large, mixed-ability groups with patience, rearranging itineraries on the fly—hiking swapped for cooking classes when needed.
- Guide speaks multiple languages, arranges practical help beyond the tour (borrowed camera charger from another city when yours was lost).
- Camel rides, campfire singing, and genuine cultural insights delivered by someone who goes beyond surface-level tourist experience.
- Reviews mention Abdoule extensively but lack specifics on camp quality, meal standards, or what 'luxury' actually includes.
