Around Kathmandu Valley Tour

Start & end in Kathmandu 5 days Up to 20

About this trip

Kathmandu is best known as the gateway to Everest, but this five-day tour stays in the valley itself, taking in the temples, squares and stupas that have made it famous well beyond mountaineering circles.

You'll spend your days moving between the valley's historic centres, taking in Hindu temples and Buddhist stupas that sit close together and reflect centuries of shared history. The pace is unhurried and geared toward sightseeing and soaking up context rather than ticking off adventure activities.

Part of the experience is seeing how Nepal has rebuilt since the April 2015 earthquake, which damaged several of the monuments on this route. It's a chance to understand both the scale of what was lost and the work that's gone into restoring it.

What you'll do

  • Explore the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur
  • Visit the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath
  • See the Hindu temple complex of Pashupatinath
  • Visit the ancient temple of Changu Narayan
  • Learn about post-earthquake reconstruction of the valley's historic monuments
Good to know
  • Sightseeing-paced and suited to families or those wanting a cultural rather than physically demanding trip
  • Some sites still show visible earthquake damage alongside ongoing restoration work
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want genuine temple and market immersion with strong local guides. Think twice if you need consistent comfort—Nagarkot accommodation can be basic.

  • Guides like Nabin deliver real cultural storytelling and keep a smart daily pace through temples and markets.
  • Nagarkot overnight accommodation is noticeably simpler and less pleasant than Kathmandu's main hotel standard.
  • Patan and Nagarkot standout stops; works well even as a solo traveller without a full group.
  • Main hotel is good; expect downgrade in hill stations, so pack accordingly for rustic nights.
