Tour du Mont Blanc TMB Circuit

Start & end in Chamonix 13 days Up to 12

About this trip

The Tour du Mont Blanc is a 13-day circuit on foot around Western Europe's highest peak, crossing between France, Italy and Switzerland as you go. It's considered one of the classic Alpine walks, and the appeal is as much in the shifting cultures and cuisines between valleys as in the mountain views themselves.

Each day follows a similar rhythm: a climb up to a ridge, then a descent into the next valley, with glaciers, meadows and snow-capped peaks along the way. The route passes through seven valleys radiating out from the Mont Blanc massif, each with its own architecture and character.

This is fully guided and supported, so you're not navigating alone and your bags move ahead to your next guesthouse or hotel, leaving you to focus on the walking.

What you'll do

  • Circle the Mont Blanc massif on foot through three countries
  • Cross from valley to valley, each with its own culture and architecture
  • Climb daily to ridgelines with views over glaciers and snow-capped peaks
  • Descend into green Alpine meadows between mountain stages
  • Stay in guesthouses and hotels with your luggage transferred for you
Good to know
  • Moderate difficulty — expect consecutive days of uphill and downhill hiking
  • Fully guided throughout, with a guide interpreting the landscape as you go
  • Luggage transfer between accommodations means you hike with only a day pack
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want a guided Alps circuit with strong guides and hotel comfort. Think twice if logistics matter as much as scenery—transport and meal quality can be patchy.

  • Guides consistently exceptional: Marta, Chiara, and Luca all praised for knowledge, flexibility with mixed-ability groups, and genuine warmth.
  • Hotel accommodation markedly better than mountain refugios; most nights in proper towns with decent rooms and meals included.
  • Logistics inconsistent: one group faced crowded city buses (strike, seasonal cuts), food ranging from lavish to lentil soup, and room allocation issues.
  • Price around £3,000–4,800 per person; one group felt corners cut to save money rather than justify cost.
