About this trip
This 22-day small-group journey starts and ends in Cancún, tracing the story of the Maya across the Yucatán, Guatemala and Belize. It is as much about people as ruins: alongside the archaeological sites, you meet the direct descendants of the Maya and get a sense of traditions that go back thousands of years.
The Maya built one of the most advanced civilisations of the ancient world, developing their own systems of writing, astronomy and mathematics, before their empire declined for reasons that are still debated. This trip works through the region's major sites to piece together that history.
You stay in good, characterful mid-range hotels and lodges throughout, with a pace and style suited to those who want depth over speed.
