About this trip
A short coach trip from Edinburgh up to the Isle of Skye and back, taking in some of Scotland's best-known landscapes along the way. You'll pass castles and lochs on the drive north before spending time exploring Skye itself.
The main focus is Skye's coastline and hills around Trotternish Ridge, along with Dunvegan Castle, before the return leg swings past Loch Ness for a chance to scan the water.
It suits anyone who wants a taster of the Highlands without organising the driving themselves, over a compact long weekend.
What you'll do
- Walk beneath the Old Man of Storr on Trotternish Ridge
- See the cliffs and waterfall at Kilt Rock
- Visit Dunvegan Castle, seat of Clan MacLeod
- Explore Portree, Skye's main town
- Stop at Loch Ness on the way back to Edinburgh
- Coach-based, with a fair amount of driving given the distances covered in 3 days
- Sightseeing pace rather than in-depth hiking, though there's some walking at Storr and Trotternish Ridge
- Starts and ends in Edinburgh
