About this trip
Ten days running the length of Vietnam, from Hanoi's old quarter down to Ho Chi Minh City, taking in the country's history, food and landscapes along the way.
You start in the capital's busy streets, cruise Halong Bay's limestone waters, then head south through the imperial city of Hue and over the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An, where there's time to slow down. The trip ends in the Mekong Delta and the energy of Ho Chi Minh City.
It's a full route covered by coach, with a mix of guided sightseeing and free time to explore each stop your own way.
What you'll do
- Cruise the limestone karsts of Halong Bay
- Visit imperial tombs and temples in Hue
- Cross the Hai Van Pass on the way to Hoi An
- Cycle the countryside or get an outfit tailored in Hoi An
- Cruise the narrow canals of the Mekong Delta
- Finish in Ho Chi Minh City
- Coach travel between cities, so expect some longer driving days
- Guided throughout, with some free time built in at stops like Hoi An
Worth it if you want a well-organised crash course in Vietnam with guides who genuinely care. Think twice if you need lots of sleep or hate early starts and long transport days.
- Tour guides Hung, Kien, and Tuan consistently made the trip; knowledgeable, funny, adaptable, genuinely attentive to group needs.
- Two gruelling travel days: 3:30am flight plus 8 hours of sitting, plus overnight sleeper train with three cabin-mates. Expect fatigue.
- Hotels and final destinations not confirmed until late, blocking advance bookings. Tour company's pre-trip hotel rates notably higher than Booking.com.
- Ten days means constant sitting on buses, boats, planes; limited exercise. You see a lot of Vietnam, but feel rushed at times.
