About this trip
A short escape from London into Wales, taking in mountains, coastline and a fair bit of history along the way. You'll pass through the Cotswolds before settling into Aberystwyth for two nights on the coast.
Expect castles, national park scenery and a couple of proper Welsh seaside towns, with a stop at a national museum to round out the history. It's a fully guided group tour, so someone else handles the driving and the logistics.
A good fit if you want a taste of Wales without organising it yourself, especially around Christmas and New Year when a group format takes the pressure off.
What you'll do
- Explore the villages of the Cotswolds on the way out
- Base yourself in Aberystwyth for two nights on the Welsh coast
- See the ruins of Harlech Castle
- Take in the scenery of Snowdonia National Park
- Wander the whitewashed streets of New Quay
- Visit St Davids, the smallest city in the UK, and the National Museum of History at St Fagans
- Fully guided throughout, so travel and stops are organised for you
- A lot of ground covered in 5 days, with most nights in a different place bar the Aberystwyth stop
- Runs over Christmas and New Year, suited to families and groups
Worth it if you want Welsh history, landscape, and a genuinely passionate guide. Think twice if long daily minibus stretches bother you.
- Guide Jack combines encyclopedic Welsh history knowledge with genuine enthusiasm that doesn't feel rehearsed after countless tours.
- Daily minibus hours feel cramped relative to destination visit length; itinerary covers too many stops rather than deeper exploration.
- B&B accommodation consistently comfortable and well-located; small group size fosters genuine camaraderie with fellow travellers and locals.
- Five days sufficient for Welsh overview but may leave you wanting return trips to explore areas that sparked interest.
