About this trip
This is a 16-day private journey through northern India, covering the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, then on into Rajasthan's fort and palace towns, a tiger safari, and Varanasi on the Ganges.
You travel by AC car with an English-speaking driver, plus one domestic flight and a train journey, so the distances are covered in reasonable comfort. Accommodation is 4-star throughout, with air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Alongside the big monuments, there's a run of hands-on moments — a camel trek and night in a desert camp near Jaisalmer, a boat ride on Lake Pichola in Udaipur, and dawn and dusk boat rides on the Ganges in Varanasi.
What you'll do
- See the Taj Mahal in Agra
- Track tigers on a safari in Ranthambore National Park
- Take a rickshaw ride through Old Delhi
- Boat on the Ganges at dawn and dusk in Varanasi
- Ride a camel and camp overnight in the desert near Jaisalmer
- Cruise Lake Pichola in Udaipur
- Private tour with your own driver and vehicle, guided at key sites rather than throughout
- Easy pace by Indian standards but covers a lot of ground over 16 days, including a domestic flight and a train leg
- Suits families and those who'd rather have a private setup than join a fixed group
Worth it if you're flexible on logistics and prioritise experience over itinerary precision. Think twice if you need clarity on what's actually included in the price.
- Driver Bholu and guide Mithun Sharma went genuinely above and beyond—navigating Indian roads safely, offering local knowledge, and sourcing personal touches like astrologers and hot air balloon rides.
- Itinerary gaps are real: entrance fees, some activities, and the Ganges boat ride weren't clearly flagged as extra costs upfront; train tickets booked last-minute landed two consecutive overnight journeys with separated berths.
- Itinerary doesn't always match ground reality; one traveller found their day train switched to overnight without warning, causing fatigue mid-tour despite booking two months ahead.
- Even during monsoon season, attractions and sightseeing ran largely as planned; accommodation and hotel selections were well-positioned near landmarks.
