About this trip
This trip runs the length of Vietnam, north to south, with water as the thread that ties it together — a cruise through Halong Bay, a riverside town in the centre, and boat trips through the Mekong Delta.
You start by sailing among the limestone karsts of Halong Bay, sleeping aboard and waking up to the view from your cabin deck. From there you head to Hoi An, with its quiet riverside charm, before finishing in the Mekong Delta, where boats replace buses as the way to get around.
It's a good fit if you want to see Vietnam's contrasts — mountains and sea in the north, history in the centre, and flat green waterways in the south — without piecing the route together yourself.
What you'll do
- Overnight cruise through Halong Bay, watching the karsts from your cabin
- Wander the old town of Hoi An on the banks of the Thu Bon River
- Boat through the Mekong Delta, Vietnam's rice-growing heartland
- Travel the full length of the country, north to south
- Available in 4 or 5 star versions
- Involves multiple modes of transport, including boats and cruises, as you move between regions
Worth it if you love food, countryside immersion, and attentive service. Think twice if you need flexibility or dislike packed itineraries.
- Cooking classes with locals (Ba Vi, Moc Village, Hoi An) genuinely memorable; guides adapt on the fly, like offering motorbike when cycling failed.
- Ha Long Bay two-night stay beats standard one-night; guides consistently excellent and Thang's team support resolves issues without you feeling abandoned.
- Ten days covers six cities plus Mekong Delta; long travel days and early starts expected. June heat can be oppressive.
- One Ha Long subcontracted to another vendor; tap water unsafe in HCMC hotels, though bottled provided.
