About this trip
Eight days across Peru's classic Inca route, taking in Lima, the Sacred Valley and Cusco with Machu Picchu as the centrepiece. This is a private, self-guided trip, so you move through it at your own pace with guides brought in for the key sites.
You start in Lima with a guided look at the capital's historic centre and the coastal views around Miraflores, then head to the Sacred Valley for Pisac's market and the Inca site at Ollantaytambo. Two days are set aside for Machu Picchu itself before you finish with a deeper look at Cusco.
It suits people who want the big historical sights covered properly without being tied to a group schedule, including families travelling together.
What you'll do
- Guided walk through Lima's historic centre and Miraflores' coastal views
- Browse the craft market at Pisac
- Explore the Inca site of Ollantaytambo
- Two full days at Machu Picchu
- Visit Cusco's Qoricancha temple and Plaza de Armas
- See the Sacsayhuaman and Puka Pukara fortresses
- Self-guided and private, so pacing is flexible rather than group-led
- Focused on sightseeing and history rather than activity or adventure
Worth it if you value seamless logistics, standout guides, and Machu Picchu done well. Think twice if you're staying at El Tambo II in Lima or need reliable WiFi everywhere.
- Guides like Fernando and Diego are genuinely excellent: deeply knowledgeable, crowd-savvy, personable, and attentive to individual travellers' pace and interests.
- Airport pickups and logistics are consistently reliable; staff coordinate transfers, flights, and bag mishaps smoothly with minimal overlap or confusion.
- El Tambo II in Lima underperforms; WiFi router doesn't reach upper floors and the hotel generally promises more than it delivers.
- Guides sometimes make assumptions about age and fatigue; ask explicitly what you're capable of rather than having activities cut short for you.
