About this trip
Six days across Tanzania's North Circuit, covering three of its best-known parks by 4WD, with a couple of days beforehand spent in the foothills of Kilimanjaro visiting a waterfall and a coffee farm.
Expect long game drives across the Serengeti's open plains, a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater where wildlife is packed into a contained bowl of land, and a stop in Tarangire, known for its elephants and baobab trees.
The trip is camping-based throughout, so you're sleeping close to the parks rather than in lodges, and the pace allows time to properly take in each stop rather than rushing between them.
What you'll do
- Game drives across the Serengeti's plains
- Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater to see its concentrated wildlife
- Spot elephants and baobabs in Tarangire National Park
- Hike to Materuni waterfalls
- Visit a local coffee farm and learn how it's grown and processed
- Camp under canvas through the parks
- Camping trip, so expect a simpler setup than lodge-based safaris
- Long driving days are part of the experience, given the distances between parks
- Suits families and first-time safari-goers as well as more independent travellers
Worth it if you're flexible about comfort and guide quality varies. Think twice if wildlife expertise and vehicle condition matter hugely to you.
- Guide knowledge and energy can be exceptional; David and Godlisten earned genuine praise for animal expertise.
- Drivers often aren't trained guides; expect broken English, vague answers, and wildlife facts that prove wrong mid-trip.
- Serengeti tent camping has genuinely poor bathroom conditions: no flushing, plugged toilets, no hot water, freezing nights.
- Old LandCruisers can leak through rusted seams and break down in the park; vehicle quality inconsistent trip to trip.
