Tanzania Budget Safari

Start & end in Arusha 5 days Up to 6

About this trip

Five days camping through northern Tanzania's best-known parks, in a small group capped at 6-7 people. You travel in a custom safari jeep with a pop-up roof, with a dedicated guide/driver and chef along for the ride.

The route covers three parks: two days in the Serengeti, where the wildebeest and zebra migration draws huge numbers of animals across the plains, then the Ngorongoro Crater, where the enclosed landscape makes wildlife easier to spot, and Tarangire, smaller in scale but known for its elephant numbers.

It's a straightforward, no-frills format — camping each night rather than lodges, with the focus on time in the parks rather than added comforts.

What you'll do

  • Track the wildebeest and zebra migration across the Serengeti over two days
  • Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for close-up wildlife viewing on the crater floor
  • Watch elephant herds in Tarangire National Park
  • Ride in a custom 4WD safari jeep with a pop-up roof for game viewing
  • Camp each night with a dedicated guide/driver and chef
Good to know
  • Camping throughout, so expect basic facilities rather than lodge comforts
  • Small group, maximum 6-7 people per jeep
  • Three parks in five days, so it's a fairly packed pace
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want reliable guides, excellent food, and genuine wildlife spotting. Think twice if you need confirmation of exact itinerary details before arrival.

  • Guides consistently identified wildlife others missed and shared deep ecosystem knowledge; Godfrey and Calvin named specifically.
  • Food quality exceeded expectations even in budget accommodations; hot water, comfortable bedding, generous portions throughout.
  • One traveller received different tour schedule than booked, only learning of changes the day before departure.
  • Small group sizes (5-6 people per vehicle) allow close animal viewing but mean early starts and long game drive days.
