About this trip
The north and east of Sri Lanka only opened up to travellers after the civil war ended, and this 12-day trip takes you through both, starting in Jaffna and finishing on the beaches of Trincomalee.
In Jaffna you get colonial architecture layered with Tamil culture, Hindu temples, and a fort with a complicated history. Trincomalee is the flip side — clear water, quiet beaches, and some of the best whale and dolphin watching in the country.
It's a private tour with some guided sections, which makes it a solid pick for families or small groups who want structure without being locked into a big group's pace.
What you'll do
- Explore Jaffna Fort and its colonial and Tamil heritage
- Visit Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines across the Jaffna Peninsula
- Take a boat to Delft Island to see its wild horses
- Snorkel the clear waters off the east coast near Trincomalee
- Watch for whales and dolphins off Trincomalee
- Wander ancient royal ruins and local markets along the way
- Private tour with some guided elements, suited to families and those wanting a bit more flexibility
- Covers two distinct regions — expect a mix of cultural sightseeing and beach time rather than a single-focus trip
