About this trip
Three countries in three weeks, each with a distinct culture and pace of life, from the temples of Kathmandu to the fortress-dzongs of Bhutan and the high plateau of Tibet.
You move through Nepal's Kathmandu valley and Chitwan jungle, Bhutan's Punakha and Paro valleys, and finally Lhasa and the road out to the Tibetan plateau, taking in monasteries, palaces and mountain passes along the way.
It is a sightseeing-led tour rather than a physical challenge, built around guided visits and short walks, with one proper climb to Tiger's Nest monastery as the exception.
What you'll do
- Explore Kathmandu's temples and old city before flying to Bhutan
- Visit Simtokha Dzong, King's Memorial Chorten and Punakha Dzong in Bhutan
- Hike up to Tiger's Nest Monastery above Paro
- Jungle safari in Chitwan National Park
- See Lhasa's Potala Palace, Norbulingka and Jokhang Temple
- Drive over the Simi La, Karo La and Kampa La mountain passes in Tibet
- Mostly easy going physically, apart from the walk up to Tiger's Nest
- The tour reaches around 5,000m in Tibet, so altitude sickness is a real possibility and staying hydrated matters
- Anyone with respiratory issues should think carefully about the altitude before joining
