Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Ness & the Glenfinnan Viaduct - Departing Edinburgh

Start & end in Edinburgh 2 days Up to 32

About this trip

Two days out of Edinburgh through the North West Highlands, with an overnight stop in Fort William. It's a lot of ground covered by coach, from historic battlefields to lochs to the foot of Ben Nevis.

Day one takes you west through Stirling and Rannoch Moor to Glencoe and Fort William. Day two loops on to Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Ness and back through Pitlochry, with a guide narrating the history and scenery as you go.

This suits anyone who wants a broad taste of the Highlands without driving themselves, rather than time to properly explore any one spot.

What you'll do

  • See Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument
  • Cross Rannoch Moor and stop in Glencoe
  • Overnight in Fort William beneath Ben Nevis
  • Visit Eilean Donan Castle
  • Stop at Loch Ness via Fort Augustus
  • Pass through Killin, Glen Garry, Loch Laggan and Pitlochry
Good to know
  • Full days on the coach with many stops rather than long stays in any one place
  • Departs Edinburgh at 08:30
  • Eilean Donan Castle's interior is closed over winter, so it's an outside visit only at that time of year

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you value knowledgeable, engaging guides who bring Scottish history and folklore to life. Think twice if you're booking through third-party retailers rather than directly—their service doesn't reflect the actual tour quality.

  • Guides like Andrew T and Eddie combine history, humour and folklore knowledge with genuine attention to group comfort.
  • Two days covers substantial ground: Eilean Donan, Loch Ness, Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe, Fort William, plus extras like highland cow encounters.
  • Booking through Royal Mile souvenir shops delivers poor service and no product knowledge; buy direct to avoid confusion and frustration.
  • Clarify child age thresholds upfront when booking—pricing tiers vary and cancellations create stress if plans aren't flexible.
