About this trip

This 10-day overland trip from Nairobi takes you through some of East Africa's best-known wildlife country, including the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater. Expect repeated game drives in search of the Big Five, alongside giraffes, wildebeest, antelope and plenty of birdlife.

Beyond the parks, you'll visit Africa's largest lake and spend time with Maasai warriors and Hadzabe elders, hearing directly about their traditions and daily life. Nights are spent camping inside or near the parks, with proper stargazing once the campfire dies down.

You'll be travelling in 4WD vehicles as a group, with the road itself part of the experience — expect long drive days, detours, and a fair bit of camaraderie along the way.

What you'll do

  • Game drives through the Maasai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in search of the Big Five
  • Spot lions, leopards, giraffes, wildebeest, antelope and varied birdlife
  • Overnight camping inside the national parks with stargazing
  • Visit Africa's largest lake
  • Meet Maasai warriors and Hadzabe elders to learn about their traditions and modern life
Good to know
  • Long drive days between parks are part of the trip, not just a means to an end
  • Early starts are common, either for prime safari hours or to beat traffic on travel days
  • You'll camp with no barriers between you and the animals, so following your leader's safety guidance matters
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want stellar local guides, excellent food, and genuine wildlife encounters. Think twice if you're unwell or need downtime to recover.

  • Guide Julius and crew (David, Godfrey, Jeremiah) consistently praised for local knowledge, professionalism, and making you feel genuinely safe on uncertain roads.
  • Food is legitimately good: locally sourced, authentic cuisine prepared fresh daily by skilled chefs despite being on the road constantly.
  • Early starts for wildlife viewing and balloon rides mean no real downtime; problematic if you're ill or need recovery time during the trip.
  • Support crew (chefs, drivers) so busy with logistics they have limited interaction time with the group outside of John's direct leadership moments.
