The Maasai Heartlands

Fifteen days overland through Kenya and Tanzania, travelling by purpose-built truck through some of the best-known game parks in eastern Africa. You'll cover serious ground, from the Maasai Mara to the Serengeti, the Great Rift Valley lakes and the Ngorongoro Crater, with plenty of time spent looking for the Big Five along the way.

This is proper overland travel: you pitch your own tent, help out as a group, and sometimes camp in the bush with no facilities. The trucks have no air conditioning but the sliding windows are good for wildlife photos and catching the breeze on long drive days.

A stay in a secure bush camp in the Loita Hills brings you close to Maasai culture, with basic facilities and cold showers rather than any comforts. Expect early starts throughout, both to catch animals at their most active and to get ahead of the road on long travel days.
