About this trip
An eight-day overland safari through Kenya and Tanzania, taking in the Serengeti, Amboseli and Ngorongoro regions in search of the Big Five and the smaller creatures that share their world, from dik-dik antelope to elephant.
You travel with a local guide in a purpose-built safari vehicle, camping along the way, including a night in the Serengeti with nothing between your tent and the wildlife outside.
Beyond the parks, there's time with a local community in Mto wa Mbu and a visit to a coffee farm, so it's not just game drives — there's a chance to meet people and see how life works away from the tourist trail.
What you'll do
- Search for the Big Five on multiple game drives across Serengeti, Amboseli and Ngorongoro
- Look for endangered black rhino in Ngorongoro Crater
- Spot giant tusker elephants in Amboseli National Park
- Camp in the Serengeti with no barriers between you and the animals
- Visit a local community in Mto wa Mbu
- Tour a working coffee farm
- This is an overland trip — camping, some rough facilities, and setting up your own tent are part of it
- Expect early starts, either for better wildlife viewing or to cover long travel days
- Road conditions and weather can shift the itinerary, so treat timings as approximate
Worth it if you're prepared for camping, enjoy long driving days, and get lucky with vehicle logistics. Think twice if you need comfort or expect game drives in proper 4x4s.
- Guides like Julius and Jacob are genuinely knowledgeable, proactive, and make you feel safe and well-informed throughout.
- All five big cats confirmed including leopard; chef adapts meals to preferences; food quantity and quality consistently praised.
- 2WD overland truck gets stuck regularly; game drives in this vehicle are too loud and scare wildlife away.
- Come with sleeping bag, towels, toilet paper, small USD bills, and visas for both Kenya and Tanzania sorted beforehand.
