About this trip
Seven days along Colombia's Caribbean coast, taking in rainforest, waterfalls, colonial architecture and island beaches without rushing between one region and the next.
You start in Santa Marta, South America's oldest surviving city, using it as a base to explore Tayrona National Park and the hills around Minca before heading overland to Cartagena for its walled colonial centre and a final day trip out to the islands.
Accommodation is shared-room, shared-bathroom hostel-style throughout, at the Masaya Originals properties in Santa Marta and Cartagena — sociable, well-located places rather than private comfort.
