About this trip
Nine days across four distinct corners of Colombia, from Andean capital to coffee hills to Caribbean coast, with short internal flights linking each stage.
You start in Bogotá's colonial old town before flying to coffee country to hike among the wax palms of Cocora Valley and learn how the coffee actually gets made in Salento. From there it's on to Medellín, with a day trip out to the lake town of Guatapé and the rock of El Peñol, then a final flight to Santa Marta for jungle trekking in Tayrona National Park and an overland finish into Cartagena.
This is a backpacker trip built around shared hostel-style stays rather than hotels, aimed at travellers who'd rather share a dorm and swap stories than have a room to themselves.
