Contrasts of Cyprus Walking

Kakopetriá → Akámas 8 days Up to 12

About this trip

A week of walking across Cyprus, from the stone villages and painted churches of the Troodos Mountains to the wilder coastline of the Akamas peninsula in the northwest.

You start in Kakopetria, exploring its cobbled streets and the nearby 11th century church of Agios Nikolaos tis Stegis, with views across the Solea and Marathasa valleys to Mount Olympus. From there the trip moves towards Droushia and the Laona Plateau, walking between stone villages with a chance to stop at a local winery.

The final days take you along the coast, through Avakas Gorge, past Lara Beach and up to the Baths of Aphrodite, before finishing with walks along the Smigies, Adonis and Aphrodite Trails and a run of coves and beaches on the north coast, including the Blue Lagoon.

What you'll do

  • Follow the coastal path to the Baths of Aphrodite with views over Chrysochous Bay
  • Walk sections of the Smigies, Adonis and Aphrodite Trails to the Moutti tis Sotiras peak

  • Both private and shared rooms are available
What travellers actually say

Worth it if you want flexible walking with strong local guides and rich history. Think twice if you're a serious hiker or hate long coach journeys.

  • Guide knowledge exceptional; locals know them, restaurants recommended, present most evenings.
  • Only 4 of 6 days involve walks; two back-to-back 10-mile days exhaust some, no recovery day between.
  • Karpaz peninsula day involves very long drive; monastery visit disappointing; not worth it if you're not keen on beaches.
  • Hotel set away from town across unmarked bypass; taxis plentiful but no walkable access to Kyrenia.
