About this trip

Three days out of Tokyo covering Kyoto, Osaka and Nara, with a local guide leading you through the key sights of each city rather than leaving you to work it out alone.

You start with an evening walk through Kyoto's Gion district, then take the train to Osaka for a day around its castle and busiest neighbourhoods, before returning to Kyoto for temples and bamboo forest, finishing with the deer of Nara Park.

It's a fast-moving introduction to three cities rather than a deep dive into any one of them, well suited to a small group travelling together.

What you'll do

  • Walk Gion's Pontocho Alley and Yasaka Shrine with a local guide
  • See Osaka Castle and the Dotonbori and Namba districts
  • Visit Kinkaku-ji temple and the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
  • Feed the free-roaming deer in Nara Park
  • See the Great Buddha statue at Todaiji Temple
Good to know
  • Covers three cities in three days, so it's a fast pace with a new base or long day each time
  • Travel between cities is by train
  • Partially guided — some sections led by a local guide, others more independent
