About this trip
This is a private three-day run out from Ashgabat into the Karakum Desert to see the Darvaza Gas Crater, the pit that's been burning steadily for decades. It's a small, flexible trip built around one striking sight and a night under a genuinely dark sky.
You'll cross open desert country between Ashgabat and Dashoguz/Shavat, with camping rather than hotels for at least one night, so the pace is slow and the setting does most of the work.
