About this trip
Fifteen days moving through central Europe by train, from Berlin down to Venice, with a local leader and a small group but plenty of room to explore each city on your own terms.
You'll take in Berlin's history and energy, Prague's old-world atmosphere, and the smaller-scale charm of Bratislava, before Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg carry you further south. Ljubljana and a day trip to Bled round things off before you reach Venice.
The pace is easy and the structure loose — group travel and transport are sorted, but free time in each spot is yours to fill, with your leader on hand for suggestions.
What you'll do
- Explore Berlin's historic sites and neighbourhoods
- Wander Prague's old town
- Take in Bratislava's compact city centre
- See both sides of Budapest, split by the Danube
- Spend time in Vienna's city centre and Salzburg's old town
- Day trip to Lake Bled from Ljubljana
- Travel is mainly by train and public transport, so pack light — you'll be lifting bags onto racks and carrying them over cobbles and stairs
- Accommodation is basic, often shared rooms with twin beds and sometimes shared bathrooms
- Plenty of free time is built in, so budget extra for optional activities and getting to and from them
Worth it if you value strong guides, smooth logistics, and mixed-age group dynamics. Think twice if budget accommodation matters more than convenience.
- Tour leaders (Juan, Zsolt, Mel, Marta) consistently handled logistics flawlessly, sorted overnight train issues, made dinner reservations, and bonded diverse age groups together.
- Route well-planned with good transport organisation; flexibility built in lets you explore cities at your own pace rather than rigid schedules.
- Hotel standard sits below the rest of the experience; reviewers wished accommodation could step up a level for the price.
- Weather in some cities beyond anyone's control; pack accordingly but don't expect tour leader to fix that.
