About this trip
Eight days through Iceland's volcanic heartlands, travelling by coach with a local leader who guides you between geothermal fields, glaciers and waterfalls.
You'll get up close to some of the country's biggest natural features — from Europe's largest glacier to a lagoon full of drifting icebergs — with plenty of time on the road taking in the isolated scenery in between.
It's a fully guided group trip, so logistics are handled for you, leaving you free to focus on the landscapes and the volcanic history behind them.
What you'll do
- Watch a geyser erupt and explore geothermal hot springs
- Touch the edge of Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier
- Cruise the icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon
- See Skogafoss and Dettifoss waterfalls up close
- Walk on decades-old lava fields
- Visit the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon
- Iceland is an expensive destination, especially for eating out — your leader can advise on budget options, and in remote areas dinner may only be available at the guesthouse
- Weather can be extreme, particularly at the start and end of the season, so pack for cold and changeable conditions; itineraries sometimes shift if roads or sites close
- Expect a few long drives to reach remote areas, and some guesthouses have shared bathroom facilities
Worth it if you prioritise Iceland's landscapes and guide quality. Think twice if accommodation standards matter—rooms are genuinely hostel-level, not hotel.
- Guides consistently knowledgeable, personable and attentive; Gisli and Jónas singled out for making landscapes meaningful.
- Accommodation is hostel-standard with shared bathrooms; multiple reviewers horrified, expecting private rooms for the price paid.
- Premium tier vastly overpriced at $3000 extra for one day; meals included are basic, exclude drinks, airport return not covered.
- Book extra days in Reykjavík if possible; small group sizes foster genuine camaraderie and personalised attention on activities.
