About this trip
This is a private, guided tour through Karnataka's temple heartland, starting and ending near Bangalore. You travel by chauffeur-driven, air-conditioned car with an English-speaking guide throughout, moving at an easy pace rather than rushing between sites.
The route takes in centuries of South Indian temple architecture, from Hoysala-era carvings at Belur and Halebid to the monolithic Jain statue at Shravanabelgola, the rock-cut caves of Badami, and the UNESCO site at Pattadakal. It finishes with Chalukya-era temples at Aihole before heading on to Hampi and Mysore.
It suits anyone with a genuine interest in Indian history and temple architecture, given how much of the ten days is spent visiting religious and archaeological sites in depth.

Worth it if you love temples, can handle 39°C heat, and get a good driver like Ramesh. Think twice if you need frequent comfortable travel days or dislike early starts and long car journeys.
- Driver Ramesh was exceptional: knowledgeable, kind, took group off-beaten-track, made the experience genuinely special.
- Two days involved over 6 hours driving; early starts made breakfasts hard to eat despite inclusion.
- April heat reaches 39°C daily. First hotel was poor, located on industrial site with no outdoor space.
- Bring socks, plenty of water, carry cash only; ATMs dispense max £50 daily, cards rarely accepted.
