Off The Trails - Snowshoeing tour

Seven days of guided snowshoeing through Hossa national park, deep in the taiga of eastern Finland. You move through snow-covered forest, over frozen lakes and along ridgelines, with the quiet of the wilderness doing most of the talking.

Nights are spent in wooden wilderness cabins, some without modern facilities but all with a proper wood-fire cosiness. Picnics happen around an open fire, and on clear nights there's a genuine chance of watching the stars, and possibly the Northern Lights, from somewhere properly dark and remote.

Expect around six hours of snowshoeing a day over varied terrain with short climbs and descents. It's guided throughout, and while beginners are welcome, you'll want a reasonable base level of fitness to enjoy it rather than endure it.

What you'll do

• Snowshoe through the snow-covered forests and ridges of Hossa national park
• Cross frozen lakes on foot as part of the daily route
• Sleep in wooden wilderness cabins, some off-grid without modern facilities
• Eat picnic meals cooked around an open fire
• Watch for stars and possibly the Northern Lights on clear nights
